Dressing Table Video!

This is my first video for my beautiful, redecorated dressing table and it's a bit experimental.
Because I have music from Scent of a Woman in the beginning and from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix at the end, YouTube muted my video :( due to copyright infringement (come on guys, we only want to accompany our videos with our favourite music!!!) so I deleted it!

I tried uploading it directly on Facebook but it was taking too long. Now I uploaded it here, and there it is!
I will make another one when I finish with the lighting around the mirror (already on it!) and I will not put any music on so it will be accepted by the YouTube dudes....

I think my voice sounds terrible over the microphone, trembly and you can sometimes hear my whizz. Time to practice my vocal exercises I learned in College!

Purple Wednesday - updated

Quick post before bedtime....
Today I wore a soft purple+pink eye shadow combination.
I decided that tomorrow I am going to go bold and combine my dark pink eye shadow from Collection 2000 and my Mac purple glittery eye shadow together with my Bourjois matte dark one.
My nails are already dark purple and I'll be wearing a dark purple shirt!

Purple is my far my most favourite colour and if I could dye my skin, hair and all my clothes purple I would!
For details of products, names, links and photos check back tomorrow.

Tempted...

I get so tempted while watching videos by the Beauty Gurus on YouTube and then go to the websites to check the products...

I just added a bunch of stuff in my Amazon basket, which I don't know when I am going to buy...
These are:

(HAHAHAHAHAHA)

I know that they will stay in my basket for quite some time and then I'll be contemplating if I need them I'll delete some stuff and maybe add some more, but it feels so good shopping around, reading all the reviews and then checking every once in a while for new arrivals!!!

Oh! The joy of online shopping (or in my case, online window shopping).
Nighty night

Lash Life

As I was saying in my previous post, I was going to try making a video while wearing false eyelashes.
And I did.

Oh, my God! It was much easier than I thought. I had these lashes in my make up bag for ages. Every time I was looking for something else, there they were and I didn't know if I was ever going to wear them.
But today, since I had time to kill, I decided to tidy up my make up bag and here they were, right in front of me, inviting me to try them on.

These are the 110 Demi Black eyelashes by Ardell and I had chosen them because, albeit bigger than I desired, they are not as big as others on the market.

I put my make up on (I managed to do the perfect winged line above my eye - don't ask me how) and then with trembling hands I held my twizzers and took the first falsie out of its case.

PROS: I found it very easy to apply the glue and then I put the strip on top of my lash line. It was on firmly instantly! I put the other one and looked in the mirror. They compemented my eyes a lot and didn't bother my eye sight at all - so much so that at one point I thought that they had fallen off. I wanted to wear them forever!  After I recorded a (failed due to bad lighting) video, it was very easy to take them off and store them back in their case.

CONS: They don't cover the whole of my eye - maybe my eyes aren't too small after all - and they might need a little trim so they are not that long.

Other than that, I had fun wearing them and when I watched the video I made (and will delete soon) I noticed that when I bowed my head, or closed my eyes, they looked amazing.  But even when my eyes were open, they looked luscious and beautiful.

So I'm in the lookout for some more styles - maybe I should get the half ones from Benefit, just for the corner of the eye, or at least try them somehow - and experiment more with more looks.

By the way, I have to make sure that I record the videos in daylight. No matter how much light I had on while shooting, the video came out very dark. Darn!

Off to my beauty sleep! Good night and have a great week.

Red Saturday

It was very beautiful.
The colour both on my nails and lips was very impressive. I got compliments for my nails!
I  had left my eyes almost untouched, just a bit of beige eyeshadow on the lids and brown on the crease and of course my favourite Mac gel liner with my new Rimmel mascara to draw the eyes.

And then I went full on on the lips with my new L'Oreal red  Infallible Compact Duo (see previous blog).
The verdict for Infallible Compact Duo is the following:

  • Does it Stay on for the whole day? Yes, but after having lunch and wiping my mouth with a napkin it faded. I had to re-apply but after that, it stayed on until I came home and removed my make up.
  • Does it crack? I saw a video where the lady's lips had cracked and was faded all over the place. Mine did not crack, which is great news!
  • How does it feel on the lips? When you apply it in the beginning, it feels dry and stretches the lips a little bit, very small sense of uncomfortness. After one minute I applied the lipgloss and immediately my lips felt hydrated and fresh.
  • Overall, would you recommend it? Absolutely. I will buy more colours - if I can get my hands on the 203 which is the colour of my lips!
Here is the picture of my nails, with the Inglot nail polish:
By the way, this was sitting in my cupboard for nearly four years and this is the first time I wore. It was as good as new, perfect quality!!!

I apologise for the very bad quality of the picture, though,
as I took it very quickly yesterday morning wiht my crappy iPod camera,
as my digi camera needs charging.
Here is a picture of my lips in close up:

That's it for now.  I'm off to attempt, to try to see if I can  experiment to rehearse (you get the gist, completely amateur stuff) to make a video for my January favourites, while wearing false eye lashes! INSERT LOL HERE!

And next weekend, THAT'S IT! I am going to tidy up my dresser and make it gorgeous (now THAT is worth a video!!!)

Red Lips, red nails

After trying many looks (naked and natural browns, shimmering silver and purple and today dark, seductive purple with bright pink lips) I decided to go glam and paint my nails RED and tomorrow get this look:

I will take pictures to post!

I have also downloaded a couple of apps on my iPod, Fast Beauty from Glamour and Lookz from Barry M (click on the links to download them).

Unfortunately, I can't get the videos to play on either on them :((, but I will update my software and try again on Sunday.

That's it for now...Off to paint the nails with one of my favourite brands: Inglot, with THIS colour:
176
For my lips tomorrow I will be using the Infallible Lip Duo from L'Oreal, in THIS colour:

205 Powerful Ruby

Can't wait!

2012 Is Here!

Big Ben at 00:00 am, 1st January 2012

Happy New Year to whoever reads this! I know it's a new blog and with probably 0 traffic, but I have big plans for it in the coming year!

So what are your New Year's resolutions? Beauty-wise I mean...
Would you like to read mine?  Well, I'll post them anyway:
  • Wear make up every day, even if it's only a couple of strokes on the eyes and cheeks if I don't have time.
  • Change my hair colour to a lighter shade (bought the dye already..!)
  • Tidy my dressing table with boxes and get some lights around the mirror.
  • Try to start making videos (see below about this)
  • Complete my make up brush collection
  • Make sure I wash my brushes after I use them - olive oil and baby shampoo do the trick!
  • Subscribe to more Beauty blogs and YouTube channels to be updated and inspired
  • Get a makeover at a make up counter (I've never done this!) to get proper advice about my skin tone and complexion
  • Write on this blog and develop it with videos and advice I pick on the way.
  • Experiment more with different looks and have fun!!
Today I had such fun trying to make my first video. I was just checking if I can make it and I spent about an hour trying to get the best lighting and position for the camera in my room. The day was quite dark and I was trying to light my face but it was coming up as yellow on the camera, until I remembered that photographers use black or white umbrellas to change the colour of the lighting. I put a black umbrella in front of the spotlight and voilá: I had the perfect lighting.

With lighting sorted I recorded a mock make up "tutorial" for silver & purple smokey eyes and it was such fun doing it, I will definitely try again. This one was quite amateurish so I am going to watch it a couple of times to take notes and make a better one at some point.  I have a very good Sony camcorder, but the very big problem is that my laptop with Windows Vista does not recognise it so I can't edit the film or upload it.
I also have a webcam but this means I will have to bring my laptop to my room and when I tried to record once it records a loud buzzing noise, so I will see how I will do this!

So that's it for the first day of 2012! I hope the year is as good as it promises, with the Olympics coming in London and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.....

I hope you all have a BEAUTIFUL New Year!

Boots Competition WIN: Giftbag with goodies from Coty!

A few weeks ago I went to the big Boots in Oxford Street to have a look around when a lady grabbed me and literally shoved a pen in my hand to take part in a competition. The question was simple: "Who is the face of Rimmel?" It is of course Kate Moss. I wrote it down put my email and name and gave the form back to her with the certainty that I will never hear from them, as I never win anything in competitions.

Well, how wrong I was! Last week I received an email that I've won and they wanted my address to send me products from Coty! You can imagine my surprise and joy! Well, only two days later, on Christmas Eve, I got back from work and found a card from the postman, that my package is at the Post Office! I missed him :(

Today, on my day off, first thing after a cup of coffee I run to the Post Office and when I saw the size of the package I couldn't believe it. It was huge!  I was expecting mainly perfumes but when I saw what the beautiful Rimmel bag contained, I couldn't believe my eyes; perfumes, eye shadows, mascaras, lipgloss....WOW!
Have a look at the slideshow to see what was in the bag :)

WordPress plugin
I really like the Kylie and Kate Moss perfumes, they're both quite strong and flowery, just as I like perfumes to be. The Playboy perfume is nice but I will keep it as a last resort.
The eye shadows are very well pigmented. I love the Twilight ZoneTrio, I know I'm going to use it until it finishes, especially the silver eye shadow! From the Green Sapphire palette I love the pink colour, it reminds me a little of Silk Teddy from Too Faced.
The Scandal Eyes mascara was something I wanted to try. It has a very thick wand, I am going to combine it with my Lancome Cils Booster to see if it makes my lashes bigger than the Hypnose mascara.
The Miss Sporty mascara has a long wand and a nice thick black colour.
I am going to use the tanning lotion when summer approaches, I usually don't use fake tan but I will give it a try...I hope I won't become like an Oompah Loompah! Hahahaha.
The bronzer and lipgloss are fantastic! I am going to wear them tomorrow, woo-hoo!

I am grateful for my luck and my goodies! Thank you Coty, thank you Boots, SO much!!!
A lovely gift for end the year...

How It All Started

I always loved make up. Not so much wearing it, but buying it! Oh, how I love to go into the big beauty stores and spend hours looking through the shelves and trying new shades, make smudges on my hand and buy a couple new lipsticks or eye shadows... Those plastic little boxes with their mirrors and brushes are sometimes to die for!

I have a box full of lipsticks. All colours, all brands, from the cheapest to the most expensive. If I wasn't wearing any other make up, I would definitely wear my lipstick! Boom! I'm wearing it, kiss me! (lol)
My other love has been nail polish and my third one, and lately my biggest one, eye shadows.

Because of my customer-facing work in a luxury environment we always have to wear make up. For the past years I would settle with blusher and lipstick. But a few months ago I was looking myself in the mirror (don't all big decisions start with something like that?) and saw that my eyes are too small and are "decorated" with the most intense dark circles - a problem that always existed unfortunately.

So I decided that it's time to put on make up and it's time to light the lights; not with the Muppets, but with my make up case(s) and some videos from YouTube. I was never in favour of dark and intense colours, they don't suit me after all and I find them a bit scary. So I searched for something natural that I can wear at work, that would be subtle, yet impressive. And I found this:

Let me tell you a little about BreeLovesBeauty (Cambria). She is very young, still at school I suppose, from the U.S.A. obviously, vibrant, joyful and very beautiful. I have been watching her videos the last few months and I got many tips from her - especially from her monthly favourites videos! I want EVERYTHING!
From this first video I saw, I fell in love with the Too Faced Eyeshadow pallette and a few days later I bought it, together with the Too Faced primer! And I have to tell you, they are PERFECT!
I can make different combinations and they work perfectly together, these are great colours.

And although I didn't do it as perfectly as Cambria, I was very happy to hear everyone's praise at work when I tried that look! Hurrah!
